Association between alopecia areata, anxiety, and depression: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Jun 05, 2019
Okhovat JP, et al. - After extracting literature from four databases (Medline, Embase, PsychINFO, and Web of Science), researchers studied the connection between alopecia areata (AA), anxiety, and depression. In the quantitative analysis, a total of eight studies (four cross-sectional studies and four case-control studies) that included 6,010 patients with AA and 20,961 control patients were involved. Findings revealed that AA patients have a higher risk of both anxiety and depression. Clinicians need to be aware of this greater risk and routinely evaluate these conditions and offer referrals when appropriate.
