Arthroscopic hip surgery compared with physiotherapy and activity modification for the treatment of symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement: Multicentre randomised controlled trial
BMJ Feb 12, 2019
Palmer AJR, et al. - In patients with symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), researchers compared arthroscopic hip surgery with physiotherapy and activity modification for improving patient reported outcome measures. Of the 350 eligible patients, 222 were randomized to arthroscopic surgery or a physiotherapy program. With arthroscopic hip surgery, patients with symptomatic FAI referred to as secondary or tertiary care achieve superior results than with physiotherapy and changes in activity. Not all patients benefit from surgery and a detailed discussion between patients and surgeons must follow the decision to perform the operation.
