Arterial and venous complications after fertility treatment: A French nationwide cohort study
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Apr 06, 2019
Filipovic-Pierucci A, et al. - Researchers examined all French women aged 18–45 years who received fertility treatment (FT) between 2013 and 2015 from the French health insurance claim database for the risk of thromboembolic complications. Further, they determined if the risk differs according to FT type. In this observational prospective cohort study, they selected 277,913 women who underwent FT, for a total of 788,007 FT cycles, with 82,821 FT-related pregnancies. They noted 75 venous thromboembolism (VTE) and 43 arterial thrombosis (AT) among unsuccessful FT cycles. A higher risk of VTE was observed in correlation with ovulation stimulation (OS) treatment cycles but not with ovulation induction (OI) compared to the reference group. Two hundred VTE and 35 AT were reported in FT-related pregnancies. Higher VTE and AT incidence rates were noted during the first trimester after OS treatment cycles when compared to the pregnant control group after adjusting for age and twin/multiple pregnancies.
