Anxiety disorders among recovered patients with substance dependence: A follow-up study

Shams Eldin AF, et al. - Recovered patients with substance dependence were examined for the presence of anxiety disorders and the types mainly seen. From the outpatient clinic of the Psychiatry and Addiction Prevention Hospital in Kasr Al Ainy, patients diagnosed with substance dependence were enrolled in the study. Anxiety disorders were highly prevalent (94%) in recovered patients with ≥6 months abstinence from substance dependence. For recovered patients, specific phobic disorder was the most prevalent type (20%), followed by social anxiety disorder (18%). The primary type of substance used was noted to have a statistically significant relation with generalized anxiety disorder.
