Antibodies to aquaporins are frequent in patients with primary Sjögrenâs syndrome

Tzartos JS, et al. – The researchers explored antibodies to several aquaporins (AQPs) in the sera from SjögrenÂs syndrome (SS) patients in order to highlight the pathogenic mechanisms of SS. They discovered that antibodies to AQPs (especially to AQP8 and AQP9) were frequent in SS patients. More likewise studies were needed to further explore the role of AQPs in salivary gland secretions.
