Anterior and posterior approaches for cervical myelopathy: Clinical and radiographic outcomes
Spine Apr 25, 2019
Hitchon PW, et al. - Via this retrospective review of patients treated for cervical stenosis and myelopathy, researchers intended to determine the benefits and disadvantages of the anterior and posterior approaches. A total of 38 participants had received anterior cervical fusion and instrumentation and 51 had undergone posterior cervical laminectomy and instrumentation. The participants were observed over a period of at least 6 months. According to findings, a shorter hospital stay and more successful restoration of cervical lordosis was seen in relation to the anterior approach vs posterior surgery and therefore, the anterior approach was advised when the benefits of one approach over the other were not self-evident.
