Anatomic distribution of endometriosis: A reappraisal based on series of 1101 patients
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Sep 09, 2018
Audebert A, et al. - Researchers performed a prospective observational study of cases with superficial implants (SI), ovarian endometrioma (OMA) and deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) to reappraise the anatomic distribution of endometriosis lesions. They analyzed 1,101 patients with a laparoscopic diagnosis of endometriosis. The main site of endometriotic lesions was the ovary, followed by the uterosacral ligaments. Except for ovarian SI and fallopian tube, left side was predominant for all locations. Data suggest a continuous increase in the diagnosis of DIE since the mid-1990s. Findings from this large cohort study of patients have strengthened previous reported data.
