Analysis of metabolic profiles of generalized aggressive periodontitis
Journal of Periodontal Research Aug 18, 2018
Chen HW, et al. - In order to elucidate the roles of metabolic profiles in the status of generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP), experts identified the differential metabolic profiles between patients with GAgP and healthy controls using an untargeted metabolomic profiling method. An effective and minimally non-invasive way to differentiate the metabolites characteristic of patients with GAgP was the metabolomics analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Findings suggested a significant difference in both serum and gingival crevicular fluid metabolomics between patients with GAgP and healthy controls. A great potential of these metabolic profiles was seen in detecting GAgP and helping to understand its underlying mechanisms.
