Analysis of etiologic factors in pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with genetic testing
American Journal of Ophthalmology May 23, 2020
Chen C, Huang S, Sun L, et al. - Researchers conducted this consecutive, cross-sectional study to examine the etiology and clinical features of nontraumatic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in children. One hundred twelve operative eyes of 102 patients, average age 12.2 ± 4.5 years (range, 1-18 years), with nontraumatic RRD have been involved. Genetic testing was carried out in 34 patients with hereditary congenital/developmental diseases. Congenital/developmental anomalies, followed by simple myopia and previous intraocular surgery were the most common etiologies of pediatric nontraumatic RRD in China. Most of the congenital/developmental anomalies were responsible for family exudative vitreoretinopathy.
