An intervention to increase students' physical activity: A 2-year pilot study
American Journal of Preventive Medicine May 21, 2018
Weaver RG, et al. - Researchers aimed at assessing the effects of a pilot, competency-building professional development program on the school day moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and total activity (light- to vigorous-intensity activity) of students from schools that serve low-income families. For increasing students’ MVPA and total activity in low-income schools, participatory-based, experiential, competency-building professional development was identified as an effective strategy. However, in view of the observation that schools were providing more than two-thirds of the recommended 30 minutes/day of MVPA prior to intervention, they suggest targeting settings outside of the school day as more appropriate.
