BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Aug 13, 2020
Durand‐Zaleski I, Deneux‑Tharaux C, Seco A, et al. - Via performing a trial‐based economic evaluation at 15 French university maternity hospitals, researchers sought to determine the cost effectiveness of using tranexamic acid (TXA) to prevent postpartum hemorrhage. They assessed data from 3,836 of 4,079 women (94.0%) enrolled in the TRAAP randomized controlled trial that compared TXA vs placebo in women with vaginal delivery. The TXA and control groups had an average total costs of €2,278 ±388 and €2,288 ±409 per woman respectively. Findings yield support to the use of TXA as it may result in reduction in both bleeding events and cost 3 out of 4 times.
