An analysis of the associations between gender and metabolic syndrome components in Korean adults: A national cross-sectional study
BMC Endocrine Disorders Jul 04, 2019
Yang YM, et al. - By age and body mass index (BMI) subgroups among Korean adults, researchers explored the connections between gender and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) components. Participants in the study were 11,136 patients. Several effects of gender on the etiology of MS components may explain differences between men and women in the prevalence of MS components. Results indicated that gender was likely to contribute to a rise in MS component incidence. Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, prediabetes, and hypertriglyceridemia were more common in males vs females, thile low high-density lipoprotein and high waist circumference incidence in females was greater vs males. Similar outcomes have been observed in subgroup analyses by age and BMI.
