Qi XR, et al. – This trial ascertained if the endogenous production of steroids changed in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) or bipolar disorder (BPD). The disturbance in the endogenous synthesis of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and sulfate metabolite DHEAS levels in mood disorders was brought to light in this study. It exhibited a close relationship with BDNF–TrkB signaling.
