Age of 40 years or older does not affect meniscal repair failure risk at 5 years

Arthroscopy Apr 23, 2019

Poland S, et al. - Patients aged 40 years or older were compared to patients younger than 40 years regarding meniscal repair failure rates. Among a total of 276 patients who underwent meniscal repair surgery by a single sports medicine fellowship–trained surgeon between 2006 and 2012, follow-up was successfully done in 221 (80%) at an average of 5 years after surgery. Outcomes revealed no increased risk of meniscal repair failure among patients aged 40 years or older at 5 years, although there appeared a shorter time to failure in this age cohort.
