Age at menarche and risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality: A systematic review and dose–response meta-analysis
Menopause Jun 07, 2019
Chen X, et al. - Via a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis based on cohort studies, the dose-response relationship between age at menarche and risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality was assessed. Searching PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, researchers identified 12 relevant cohort studies, with 79,363 deaths and 2,341,769 participants for inclusion. Observations revealed an inverse association of age at menarche with all-cause and ischemic heart disease (IHD) mortality. Age at menarche and all-cause mortality had a nonlinear dose-response correlation; the lowest risk was observed with menarche at age 15 years. However, there was no evidence of a nonlinear association between menarche age and CVD mortality, IHD mortality, or stroke mortality.
