Age and outcomes of medial meniscal-bearing unicompartmental knee replacement
Journal of Arthroplasty Jun 24, 2018
Kennedy JA, et al. - Researchers evaluated the impact of age on function and revision risk in patients undergoing medial meniscal-bearing unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR). In all age groups, good functional outcomes were provided by medial meniscal-bearing UKR, but probably because of deteriorating health the functional outcome deteriorated at 10 years in older patients (75+). In younger patients, the revision rate was not higher contradicting the registry observations. To medial meniscal-bearing UKR, patient age should not be considered a contra-indication. With correct indications, consideration of patient age as a contra-indication to medial meniscal-bearing UKR was not suggested in the findings.
