Adverse outcomes after non urological surgeries in patients with chronic kidney disease: A propensity-score-matched study
Clinical Epidemiology Aug 13, 2019
Cherng YG, et al. - Researchers used claims data of Taiwan’s National Health Insurance and assessed the complications, mortality, and medical expenditures following nonurological surgical procedures in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in this matched cohort study including 35,643 CKD patients who had nonurological surgeries in 2008–2013. For comparison, they selected 35,643 non-CKD patients, using a propensity-score matching procedure. More adverse events, with risks of in-hospital death that were about 2-fold higher following nonurinary operation were observed in surgical patients with CKD vs non-CKD patients. An urgent requirement to review the protocols for postoperative care in this population was suggested.
