Acute kidney injury in children with nephrotic syndrome: A single-center study
Clinical Kidney Journal Apr 10, 2018
Sharma M, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers determined the incidence, clinical characteristics, risk factors and short-term outcome of acute kidney injury (AKI) in 355 children ≤18 years of age with a clinical diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome (NS) admitted in the Department of Nephrology, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital from January 2012 to December 2015. It was not uncommon to detect AKI in children with NS. Common factors that were found to be associated with AKI included infection and exposure to nephrotoxic drugs. Compared with steroid-sensitive NS (SSNS), AKI was more frequently seen in steroid-dependent NS (SDNS) and steroid-resistant NS (SRNS). The mean time to recovery was prolonged with more severe AKI.
