Activity of rheumatoid arthritis correlates with oral inflammatory burden
Rheumatology International Aug 23, 2018
Äyräväinen L, et al. - Experts sought to study the oral health in patients having rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with emphasis on disease activity and treatment of RA. Poorer oral health was seen in the RA patients already in the early phase of the disease vs controls. In both patient groups, the caries indices correlated with the activity of RA. Therefore, there was a probability of the oral status to contribute to the development and further relate to the activity of RA. After follow-up, a positive association of [Disease Activity Score (28-joint) DAS28] with Decayed Missing Filled Teeth (DMFT) and Decayed Missing Filled Surfaces (DMFS) was seen in early untreated RA (EURA) patients; as well as in chronic RA (CRA) patients DMFT, DMFS.
