Accelerated hair growth by combining thread monofilament and minoxidil in female androgenetic alopecia
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Dec 11, 2019
Khattab FM, et al. - In female androgenetic alopecia, researchers tested the safety and effectiveness of thread therapy combined with minoxidil. Based on a left-head to the right-head pattern, 27 women were recruited in this randomized half-split study. Monofilament thread therapy was performed unilaterally (once); for 6 months minoxidil was applied bilaterally. In the baseline and every 2 months till the end of treatment, global photographs and dermoscopy assessments have been conducted. According to findings, mean hair density in the combined group rose from 114 ± 27 to 143 ± 25/cm2 and in the minoxidil group from 113 ± 24 to 123 ± 19/cm2. In 93% of patients in the combined group and 52% of patients in the minoxidil group, global photographs displayed improvement. When conjunction with minoxidil, poly-l-lactic acid microthread therapy will boost hair density, hair thickness and hair appearance better than minoxidil alone.
