Abnormal creatine transport of mutations in monocarboxylate transporter 12 (MCT12) found in patients with age-related cataract can be partially rescued by exogenous chaperone CD147

Human Molecular Genetics Aug 26, 2017

Staubli A, et al. – An examination was performed of the monocarboxylate transporter 12 (MCT12), also called creatine transporter 2 (CRT2), detected in the ocular lens and involved in cataract. Insights were gained with regard to the molecular requirements of creatine transporter. Special attention was directed towards the rescuing effects by its chaperone CD147. This, in turn, could yield pharmacological information for substrate delivery.
