Ab interno goniotomy combined with ab externo trabeculotomy in advanced primary congenital glaucoma patients: 2-year follow-up
Clinical Ophthalmology Feb 17, 2021
Helmy H, et al. - Researchers conducted a prospective clinical case study with the aim to qualify the outcome, in terms of success rate, of goniotomy combined with trabeculotomy as a surgical option to manage eyes affected by primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) with a corneal diameter larger than 14 mm. A total of 50 eyes of 50 patients diagnosed with PCG with corneal diameter larger than 14 mm were included on whom ab interno goniotomy combined with ab externo trabeculotomy was performed. The patients’ mean age was 18.86± 9.94 months. Outcomes revealed improved success rate of buphthalmos surgery in correlation with Ab interno goniotomy combined with ab externo trabeculotomy. They indicated a significant correlation between success rate and preoperative IOP, corneal diameter, axial length, consanguinity, and age of onset.
