A validation study of crescents in predicting ESRD in patients with IgA nephropathy
Journal of Translational Medicine May 23, 2018
Zhang X, et al. - In view of the recent report of a working group on the Oxford classification of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) suggesting the potential of crescents detected in kidney tissue in predicting a worse renal outcome, researchers sought to validate this finding in independent cohorts before wide application to clinical practice. Compared to IgAN patients without crescents, those with crescents demonstrated more severe clinical and pathological manifestations. However, the association between crescents and renal function progression could not be replicated in Chinese IgAN patients followed for more than 1 year.
