A systematic review of drug treatment of vulvodynia: Evidence of a strong placebo effect

Pereira GMV, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review of randomized controlled studies which assess medications used to treat vulvar pain in vulvodynia. They included 5 studies in qualitative synthesis. The studies showed variation in the pain reduction rates of patients with vulvodynia assessed by Q-tipped cotton test and visual analogue scale. Findings revealed no medication to have an impact on vulvar pain in vulvodynia. Evidence of a placebo effect was also gained.
