A randomized study comparing regular care with a nurse-led clinic based on tight disease activity control and person-centred care in patients with rheumatoid arthritis with moderate/high disease activity: A 6-month evaluation
Musculoskeletal Care Jun 27, 2019
Bergsten U, et al. - Via a randomized, controlled trial of 332 patients, the researchers assessed the effect of a nurse-led clinic with frequent visits, treat-to-target and person-centered care of patients with established rheumatoid arthritis (RA, a chronic autoimmune disease, characterized by persistent inflammation and, if insufficiently treated, progressive destruction of the joints) and moderate-to-high disease activity in comparison with patients receiving regular care. Patients were distributed among an intervention group (IG) or a control group (CG). Significant improvement in delta-Disease Activity Score in 28 joints was observed in both the IG and CG groups. Hence, improvement in disease activity was noted with the nurse-led intervention in comparison with regular care, however, probably partly due to the lack of statistical power, the difference was not significant.
