A randomized controlled trial of the safety and efficacy of a topical gentamicin-collagen sponge in diabetic patients with a mild foot ulcer infection
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Aug 01, 2018
Uçkay I, et al. - Researchers performed a single-center, investigator-blinded pilot study evaluating the safety and efficacy of a topical gentamicin-collagen sponge in diabetic patients with a mild foot ulcer infection. Patients were randomized (1:1) to treatment with a gentamicin-collagen sponge (GCS) with local care vs local care alone. In this study, systemic antibiotic agents were barred. Patients tolerated topical antibiotic therapy with GCS well, but did not appear to have impoved outcomes related to mild diabetic foot ulcer infections.
