A randomized, controlled, prospective study of the effectiveness and safety of an intracanalicular dexamethasone ophthalmic insert (0.4 mg) for the treatment of post-operative inflammation in patients undergoing refractive lens exchange (RLE)
Clinical Ophthalmology May 29, 2021
Larsen J, Whitt T, Parker B, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective, open-label, interventional, randomized, controlled study to determine patient preference and treatment outcomes with an intracanalicular dexamethasone (0.4 mg) insert vs standard steroid drop regimen in the contralateral eye following bilateral refractive lens exchange (RLE) surgery. The sample consisted of 20 patients who underwent bilateral RLE. For post-operative steroid treatment, patients undergoing bilateral RLE expressed a strong preference for an intracanalicular insert over a topical steroid. In terms of cystoid macular edema, visual acuity, and intraocular pressure rise, there was no clinically or statistically significant difference in results.
