A randomized clinical trial of knotless barbed suture vs conventional suture for closure of the uterine incision at Cesarean delivery
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 10, 2018
Peleg D, et al. - A randomized clinical trial was undertaken to assess the utility of knotless barbed suture on the myometrium to close the hysterotomy at cesarean delivery. In addition, researchers compared knotless barbed suture vs conventional suture in terms of uterine closure time, need for additional sutures, and blood loss. Because knotless barbed suture reduced the closure time of the uterine incision, it demonstrated to be a reasonable alternative to conventional sutures. Furthermore, uterine closure with knotless barbed suture was observed to associated with less need for additional hemostatic sutures and slightly reduced estimated blood loss.
