A prospective long‐term follow‐up study of optic disc pit maculopathy treated with pars plana vitrectomy, drainage of subretinal fluid and peeling of internal limiting membrane
Acta Ophthalmologica Dec 16, 2020
Makdoumi K, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective, consecutive, noncomparative follow‐up study for describing the long‐term results of surgical repair of patients with optic disc pit maculopathy (ODP‐M). The sample consisted of 12 patients with ODP‐M treated by pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), peeling of internal limiting membrane followed by gas tamponade. In this long‐term study of ODP‐M, final outcome regarding healing was relatively efficacious, but a relatively large proportion had complications linked to retinotomies. The authors conclude that SRF drainage should probably be avoided because it appears to contribute little to the SRF resorption rate and appears to be associated with unnecessary risks.
