A prospective, controlled, multicenter study to evaluate the clinical outcome of implant treatment in women with osteoporosis/osteopenia: 5-year results
Journal of Dental Research Sep 16, 2018
Temmerman A, et al. - In this prospective, controlled, multicenter study, researchers tested the long-term outcome of implants placed in patients with systemic osteoporosis. Using dual X-ray absorptiometry scans, postmenopausal women who needed implants had bone mineral density measurements in the hip and spine and were then split into an osteoporosis group and a control group. Results of this study suggested that oral implant therapy in osteoporotic patients is a reliable treatment option with similar osseointegration rates, implant survival, and marginal bone-level alterations after 5 years of functional loading.
