A pilot randomized controlled trial of 6-week combined exercise program on fasting insulin and fitness levels in individuals with spinal cord injury

Kim DI, et al. - Investigators assessed 19 candidates to examine the influence of combined exercise program (aerobic and resistance exercises for 60 min per day) on the fasting insulin and fitness levels of people with spinal cord injury (SCI). They noticed a reduction in average fasting insulin and HOMA-IR in the exercise group after the 6-week exercise program. A significant improvement was noted in the muscle strength of shoulder flexors, extensors, abductors, adductors, and elbow flexors in the exercise group as compared to the controls.
