A novel marker of persistent left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy: Monocyte count- to- HDL cholesterol ratio

BMC Cardiovascular Disorders May 22, 2019

Ekizler FA, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM; n=64), researchers evaluated monocyte-to-high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol ratio (MHR) as a predictor for left ventricular (LV) recovery. They found that LV non-recovery was significantly predicted by increased MHR levels in univariate analysis. Persistent LV systolic dysfunction was predicted by MHR at a cut-off level of 9.73, with a sensitivity and specificity of 89% and 79%, respectively. Overall, it was shown for the first time in this study that elevated MHR holds significance as a predictor of persistent LV systolic dysfunction in PPCM. The high-risk patients with PPCM might be detected with the aid of MHR.
