A neutrophil activation biomarker panel in prognosis and monitoring of patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Arthritis & Rheumatology Dec 12, 2019
Bach M, et al. - Using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, in serum and plasma collected from individuals in three cross-sectional RA cohorts and gender-matched healthy controls, markers of neutrophil activation (calprotectin) and cell death (NETs) were examined in order to evaluate markers of neutrophil activation and NET formation in plasma samples, examining whether they added clinical significance in enhancing the ascertainment of prognosis and monitoring in RA individuals. It was discovered that in RA, neutrophils undergo marked activation and cell death. Thus, neutrophil biomarkers could give added clinical importance in the monitoring and prognosis of RA people and may permit for early preventive treatment intervention.
