A meta-analysis of the efficacy of gabapentin for treating alcohol use disorder
Addiction Jun 12, 2019
Kranzler HR, et al. - Searching PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov, researchers identified seven randomized controlled trials of gabapentin for this meta-analysis evaluating gabapentin's effects on six alcohol-related outcomes. In addition, they tested the potential moderators, investigated publication bias and assessed the quality of the studies. Findings suggest gabapentin as more efficacious than placebo in treating alcohol use disorder. However, the only measure that clearly favors the active medication is percentage of heavy drinking days. Overall, the studies were of good quality, and there was no evidence of publication bias.
