A low fasting glucose/estimated average glucose ratio was associated with superior response to insulin degludec/aspart compared to basal insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes

Jang HN, Yang YS, Oh TJ, et al. - A retrospective observational study was conducted to explore whether a low fasting glucose/estimated average glucose ratio was correlated with superior response to insulin degludec/aspart in comparison with basal insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes. Researchers enrolled patients who initiated once-daily IDegAsp from a basal insulin cohort from 3 referral hospitals. Via Propensity-score matching, a control group maintaining basal insulin was selected. They assessed HbA1c changes over 6 months and correlated clinical factors. A total of 87 patients were included in the IDegAsp group and the control, respectively. It was shown that IDegAsp was found to be more effective than basal insulin in patients with an FPG lower than predicted by HbA1c, which might be related to insulin deficiency and postprandial hyperglycemia in patients on basal insulin therapy.
