A human amniotic membrane plug to repair retinal detachment associated with large macular tear
Acta Ophthalmologica Apr 17, 2019
Caporossi T, et al. - Investigators performed a 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy with peripheral retinectomy to illustrate a surgical technique, using a human amniotic membrane (hAM) plug, in a couple of cases of retinal detachment with a large macular tear. A neuroretina ingrowth over the hAM plug was reported in 1 week postoperative OCT. They also found a regenerated neurosensory retina entirely covering the hAM plug in the 3-month OCT. Three months after the operation in both cases, they observed improvement in visual acuity from light perception to 20/400 (LogMAR 1,3). They extracted the silicone oil 4 months following surgery with no recurrences. After the silicone oil extraction, the patients' visual acuity remained stable at 20/400.
