A comparison of the risk of congestive heart failure-related hospitalizations in patients receiving hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis - A retrospective propensity score-matched study
PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases Oct 09, 2019
Sun CY, Sung JM, Wang JD, et al. - Given the correlation of congestive heart failure (CHF) with high mortality and a heavy financial and healthcare burden in the dialysis population, researchers sought to assess the dialysis modality that could be associated with a higher risk of developing CHF. Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database, a total of 65,899 dialysis patients were enrolled. Applying the propensity score matching method, they identified 4,754 matched pairs of hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Findings revealed a higher risk of developing CHF-related hospitalization in correlation with HD vs PD. Findings emphasize implementing different surveillance program for CHF in patients receiving different dialysis modalities.
