A comparison of the risk of acute myocardial infarction in patients receiving hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis: A population-based, propensity score-matched cohort study
Atherosclerosis Jun 01, 2020
Sun CY, Li CY, Sung JM, et al. - Given acute myocardial infarction (AMI) continues to be the major reason for morbidity as well as death in the dialysis population, researchers determined if dialysis modalities could represent one of the uremia-specific risk factors for AMI. They identified all incident dialysis patients from January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2010, from the National Health Insurance Research Database. They used propensity score matching to form the matched pairs of hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Findings revealed a significant link of HD, vs PD, with higher risk of encountering AMI, particularly after 4 years since dialysis was started. Individualizing prevention and routine surveillance programs for AMI as per dialysis modalities and vintage was advised.
