Simon D, et al. - Experts evaluated the impact of systemic bone loss on articular bone in patients with chronic inflammatory diseases of the joints, the gut and the skin. For articular bone loss, presence of anticitrullinated protein antibody (ACPA)+rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was an independent factor; as seen in multivariate models. Among chronic inflammatory diseases, the most potent precipitator for articular bone loss was ACPA+RA pointing out the role of autoimmunity in the development of articular bone disease in the context of chronic inflammatory disease.
