A cohort study reporting normal oximetry values in healthy infants under 4 months of age using Masimo technology
Archives of Diseases in Childhood Aug 22, 2018
Evans HJ, et al. - Using a modern pulse oximeter with motion artefact extraction technology, researchers ascertained sleeping saturation indices in healthy infants. Participants in this prospective cohort were healthy term infants. In this investigation, 45 babies were studied at 1 month and 38 babies at 3–4 months. Data reported that desaturation indices were substantially higher in young infants than older children where a desaturation index >4% (DI4) over 4 was considered abnormal. Compared with older children, these decrease by 3–4 months of age but still remain elevated.
