17β-estradiol vaginal tablet vs conjugated equine estrogen vaginal cream to relieve menopausal atrophic vaginitis
Menopause Oct 29, 2018
Rioux JE, et al. - Researchers conducted this multicenter, open-label, randomized, parallel-group study of 159 menopausal women to determine the efficacy and safety of 25-μg 17β-estradiol vaginal tablets vs 1.25-mg conjugated equine estrogen vaginal cream for the relief of menopausal-derived atrophic vaginitis resulting from estrogen deficiency. Treatment regimens with 25-μg 17β-estradiol vaginal tablets and with 1.25-mg conjugated equine estrogen vaginal cream were equivalent in terms of relieving symptoms of atrophic vaginitis. Without appreciable systemic estradiol increases or estrogenic side effects, the vaginal tablets demonstrated a localized effect. Greater patient acceptance and lower withdrawal rates were evident with vaginal tablet therapy vs vaginal cream therapy.
