Wrong vaccination: 19 babies discharged in Telengana

Nineteen infants out of 34 were discharged from Niloufer hospital, Hyderabad on March 9 who were hospitalised after they wrongly administered Tramadol tablet instead of a paracetamol.
According to hospital sources here, 15 babies are still under observation and in which three were on ventilator and remaining babies who are under observation will be discharged soon, Two infants died and over 34 children were hospitalised on March 7 after they developed health complications, a day after being administered some vaccine to nearly 92 children at the Urban Primary health centre in Nampally in the city on March 6.
The government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident even as the Director of Public Health (DPH) and district medical officer have been directed to place the health supervisor of the health centre under suspension. According to Habeebnagar police, further actions will be after autopsy report is received. The samples of drugs from the hospital were collected by the police and sent to forensic laboratory for analysis.
Meanwhile, congress leaders who visited the hospital yesterday, demanded Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia relief for the next of kin of the infants who lost their lives due to the negligence of the health centre staff and Rs five lakhs to the families of those infants who had been hospitalised.
