This day was declared the World IVF Day following the first IVF baby’s birth in the world. To commemorate the birth of the ‘First IVF baby’, medical experts and members of Bourn Hall Fertility Centre came together on Monday July 24, 2017 to celebrate the occasion of the World IVF Day.The event at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, Gurugram, brought into focus the increasing prevalence of fertility issues in India and emerging technologies in fertility treatment through a session conducted by Bourn Hall Fertility Specialists –Dr. Leena Yadav and Dr. Anu Yadav. Research suggests there has been a 50% increase in infertility in urban India since 1981 and10-15% of couples in India are suffering from infertility.

Current global data reveals more than three million babies around the world have been given birth thanks to this technology which was pioneered in Bourn Hall, U.K. At present in India, 40,000 cycles of fertility treatment are being done nationwide, up from 7,000 cycles in 2000.Commenting on the increasing figures of infertility in India, Dr. David Robertson, Group Medical Director, Bourn Hall India said, “Over the past few years, there has been a significant rise in the use of assisted reproductive technologies in India. The central component of any IVF clinic is the embryology laband the best possible laboratory conditions are essential to achieve the best results in IVF treatment. Bourn Hall is proud to have thefirst and largest ‘clean room’ laboratory in Asia which means the temperature control and air quality is optimal for embryo growth, therefore creating higher pregnancy rates.”

Commenting further on the importance of high quality healthcare, Hoda Abou Jamra, Group CEO of Bourn Hall International said, “We focus on bringing the highest international standard of care to emerging markets like India for couples here to benefit from the experience and expertise of fertility care from the West. With the lack of strict regulation in fertility practices in India, we have taken the initiative to self-regulate and ensure we provide patients with the highest level of clinical and patient care. All our clinical protocols and policies are from Bourn Hall UK - the pioneers of IVF who were responsible for the world’s first baby and who have helped countless couples grow their families.”

Recent researches and studies show a significant increase in the use of assisted reproductive technologies in India. IVF is by far the most commonly used high-tech fertility treatment, accounting for more than 99 percent of assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures. The reason why IVF has become the preferred choice of conception is the fact that with an alarming increase in obesity in urban areas, stressful lifestyles and greater adherence to unhealthy habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption, the issues of infertility are becoming more complex nowadays. Studies indicate that the use of various IVF techniques when conducted in safe environments raise active possibilities of positive outcomes.
