Women beat up medics in front of policemen after death of patient at Malda, West Bengal

Angry over the death of a patient due to alleged negligence, irate women beat up two medics in front of policemen and then ransacked the government owned primary health centre at Manikchowk in West Bengal's Malda district.
A 31-year-old woman, a resident of Dhanrajpur village under Manikchowk gram panchayet, was admitted on July 23 at Manikchawk
grameen hospital with complaints of fever and infection in the mouth and died early July 24 morning. The relatives of the patient arrived early the same day and found that the patient was declared dead. The news of death sent them into angry reaction as they called the
medics and began hittingthem in front of policemen, who were posted there.
Even the policemen were also beaten up when intervened as they accused the medics of negligence leading to death of the patient, who had walked into the hospital the previous evening. The medics- Rathin Kundu and M Pal - were injured in the assault case, which was lodged at Manikchowk police station. Mostly the women beat up the two medics and policemen. The women also ransacked the health centre. The reinforcement from the police station brought the situation under control. There had been no arrest immediately in this connection. The injured medic Rathin Kundu said there had been no negligence in the treatment.
