Doctors here successfully performed dual surgery and gave a new lease of life to a 23-year-old woman who had suffered brain haemorrhage and also delivered her premature baby.
Himanshi, a resident of Aligarh, was having severe headache for which she consulted the doctors in her town. A CT scan report revealed that she had intra-cranial haematoma -- bleeding inside her brain.
When Himanshi came to Jaypee Hospital, her condition was very critical. The bleeding inside her brain could have been fatal, if not treated timely, and could have harmed the baby," Vishal Jain, Senior Consultant - Neurosurgery Department at Jaypee Hospital said in a statement on Monday.
Before the surgeries took place, Himanshi was kept under observation for 12 hours and was given steroids so that the lungs of the 30-week-old premature baby could get mature. After the stipulated hour, the doctors from the gynaecology department first performed a C-section and successfully carried out the premature delivery 10 weeks before time. Later, doctors from the neurosurgery department conducted the craniotomy and evacuation of haematoma surgery.
Both the mother and the baby are now doing fine, the doctors said. "We are really thankful to the doctors as today my wife is out of danger and we are blessed with a daughter," said Himanshi's husband.
