The upgradation of Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) is in full swing and its 336 bedded new hospital building is almost complete, Tezpur Lok Sabha BJP MP R P Sharma said on July 10.
Laying the foundation stone of the Central Library and Informatics Centre building of LGBRIMH, Sharma said the new hospital with all the facilities for treatment of psychiatric disorders is almost ready to serve the entire Northeast region. A new academic building, cafeteria, hostels and residential quarters have already been completed, Sharma said. A modern Central Library and Informatics Centre will be coming up at LGBRIMH.
Sharma said the project was sanctioned by the Centre after the submission of a memorandum to the Prime Minister and Union Health Minister during the last Parliament session. Highlighting the importance of good mental health, Sharma said there was a need for a specialised centre in the region. LGBRMH Director Dr Sailen Deuri said the Informatics Center will be one of its kind in the region with facilities for teleconferencing, telemedicine and telecommunication.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 23.43 crore and would be completed within a period of two years from the date of commencement of construction, Dr Deuri said. A 100-bedded Neurology and Neurosurgery Block as well as a Sports and Recreational Facility will also be coming up in LGBRIMH in phases for the all-round development of the institute, he added.
