UNI Dec 08, 2017

A history of sorts was made at Durgapur today when two blind persons got back their vision after successful corneal transplantation surgeries by Dr Jayangshu Sengupta, Medical Director of Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital (M P Birla Group).

The surgeries took place at the Durgapur unit of the Hospital at the City Centre, Ambedkar Sarani, Durgapur. After the surgeries, Dr Sengupta told media persons that the Durgapur unit of the Hospital had taken the initiative to perform the first corneal transplantation surgery in the Durgapur zone to open avenues for people in the region to avail of the corneal service and continue post-surgery follow-up support near home.

With its state-of-the-art ophthalmic facilities and corneal services, the Durgpaur unit of Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital (M P Birla Group) has brought advanced eye care facilities to the doorstep of people in and around Durgapur, including Bolpur, Rampurhat, Suri and Purulia, and the adjoining districts as well as the neighbouring States of Jharkhand and Bihar. The Hospital has a sophisticated micro-biological laboratory set-up, with advanced diagnostic tools like PCR and a well-equipped eye bank.
