TN party demands white paper on Jipmer admission
UNI Jun 13, 2018
Alleging that Puducherry students are losing their rights due to widespread irregularities in admission to MBBS course at JIPMER, DMK MLA on June 12 demanded a white paper on Puducherry students qualified for JIPMER admission.
In a letter to chief minister V Narayanasamy, Siva demanded that a committee be constituted under the district collector to inquire into it. He charged that the seats reserved for local students are being grabbed by students from other states through the “back door”. He said to get nativity, one should reside in Puducherry for five years at a stretch. However, in the case of central government employees they get nativity on completion of two years of service in Puducherry.
"Capitalizing this facility central government employees get transfer to Puducherry, get their wards admitted for medicine in Puducherry quota and return after two years, thus, depriving local students of their rights. Those residing in Puducherry before 1964 were recognized as scheduled caste people of Puducherry. But this is not being followed by the educational institutions under central government functioning in Puducherry," Siva said. He also demanded that an inquiry be conducted to trace fake residence and nativity certificates.
