Suspected Measles outbreak in Zunheboto of Nagaland

Suspected outbreak of measles has been reported from Aghunato Block under the Zunheboto district of Nagaland.
Official sources said that according to the data provided by the District Project Officer (RCH and UIP) of Zunheboto Dr. Alemwabang Aier, a total of 50 cases have been identified from areas of Aghunato town, Shevishe and Lukikhe as on May 29. In this respect the relevant blood, urine samples and throat swap have been collected and sent for laboratory testing. Sources said that Measles is a highly infectious and deadly disease among children which is easily preventable by vaccination.
However the immunization coverage has remained below 50 per cent in the district. Health Department with the help of district administration is running an immunization drive under special Intensive Mission Indradhanush and also making efforts to improve Routine Immunization Coverage for pregnant mothers and children below 5 Years of age. The district administration has appealed to all the concerned citizens to give full support and ensure that no child is left behind from life-saving vaccines by immunization drive under special Intensive Mission Indradhanush, sources said.
