A life-saving operation, hip replacement surgery was performed by renowned Dr. Harprit Singh, an Orthopaedic surgeon who has conducted 40,000 operations over a period of 20 years.
The patient was a 92-year-old individual who had sustained a hip fracture. Having a history of heart problem with only 30% of heart functional (lvef), the patient had consulted several surgeons and hospitals for relief as this type of surgery normally takes 45 min to 1 hour 30 minutes. The patient had already been operated on with even less than 18 pc heart function. He was then referred to Dr. Harprit Singh, a renowned Orthopaedic surgeon at Orthonova Hospital , who handles such complex cases with precision and finesse.
The patient was taken up for surgery by Dr. Harprit for partial Hip Replacement (Hemi Replacement) and the surgery was carried out in less than 5 minutes. The patient was able to stand the next day and started walking in just two days time. He is enjoying a fit life now and is grateful to Dr. Harprit in this regard.
A precise and fast surgery has its own advantages as Dr. Harprit said later. In a quick surgery, the heart doesn't get the load of a prolonged operation and heavy dose of drugs and therefore the recovery is faster. Further, Dr. Harprit shared some insights post the miraculous surgery: "A precise albeit quick surgery has its own benefits. There is almost no blood loss in such a short duration. Tissue desiccation is minimal therefore recovery is faster and as fibrosis is less, pain is minimal. Overall, the recovery of the patient is much faster than usual and chances of infection are marginally less as air contact is for a very short time as compared to a longer surgery of over 1.5 hours."
